SavATree Arborists Rescue 300-Year-Old Revolutionary War "Witness Tree"
A living sentinel of American independence has received a second lease on life. Yesterday, master arborists fromSavATree began a high-precision preservation project to restore the Eutaw Springs Witness Tree that has been slowly declining due to compacted soil, a lightning strike 50+ years ago and not receiving the proper care over the decades. The Witness Tree is a massive Live Oak estimated to be 300 years old that stood watch over the Battle of Eutaw Springs on September 8, 1781, one of the final and bloodiest engagements of the Revolutionary War's Southern Campaign.
