How to Work in a Family Business with Multiple Generation Arborists

As a member of a family tree care business myself, I've learned a few key strategies for effectively working with and managing my co-workers (Dad) across different generations.

By valuing and utilizing the strengths of each generation, you can create a more well-rounded and efficient team.

This means setting up regular meetings or check-ins, and making sure that everyone is aware of the goals and objectives of the business. It also means providing opportunities for all crew members to provide input and feedback, and being open to suggestions and ideas from all generations. (This may take some time.)

(Be patient, change doesn’t happen over night) This will help to ensure that all crew members are able to perform their jobs safely and efficiently, and it will also help to bridge the gap between different generations.

Finally, it's important to foster a culture of respect and collaboration within the team. This means encouraging team members to work together, share ideas, and help each other out. It also means providing opportunities for team members to learn from each other, and promoting a sense of community and camaraderie among the team.

By following these strategies, you can create a cohesive and effective team of arborists across multiple generations. By working together and leveraging the strengths of each generation, you can provide high-quality tree care, and ensure the success of your family business.
